TallyPrime's GST and Greenote: which does what

TallyPrime now uploads GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, files GSTR-1 and reconciles 2A and 2B from inside Tally. If the client’s books are complete in Tally, much of the GST month can be done there.

The first GST product to compare Greenote with is the one every client already has. TallyPrime’s connected GST uploads GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B data, files and signs GSTR-1, and downloads and reconciles 2A and 2B, all from inside Tally. For a business with complete books in a current TallyPrime, that covers a great deal.

A practice meets it differently. Clients are on different Tally versions, some without TSS, and the books are not complete when the month closes: the bank entries are not in, and the purchase bills are in a pile. Greenote is for that part, getting the books into Tally and checking them, and it works with whichever Tally the client has. It does not file; Tally, or your filing software, does.

Who TallyPrime's GST suits

  • A business that keeps its own books in TallyPrime and files its own returns.

  • A practice whose clients are on a current TallyPrime with TSS, and whose books are already complete.

  • Anyone who wants e-invoice and e-way bill from the same place as the books.

When TallyPrime's GST is the better choice

Greenote does not do what TallyPrime's GST does. These are the cases where it is the one to buy.

  • The books are already complete and correct in a current TallyPrime. Then Tally can upload, file GSTR-1 and reconcile without anything else.

  • You need e-invoices and e-way bills. Tally generates them. Greenote does not.

  • You do not want another piece of software. It is in the Tally you already have.

  • You are one business, not a practice with many clients on different Tally versions.

TallyPrime's GST and Greenote: common questions

Does Greenote file GST returns like TallyPrime's GST?
No. Greenote does not file GST returns. It prepares the workings and the checks, and you file on the GST portal or in your filing software. Greenote does not generate e-invoices or e-way bills. If you need software to file with, TallyPrime's GST is that kind of product and Greenote is not.
What does Greenote do for GST, then?
GSTR-2B reconciliation, GSTR-3B working, GSTR-1 check, Supplier filing check, Book a month's purchases from 2B and GSTR-9 working. All of it is in the Books and GST and All-in-One plans.
Can I use Greenote together with TallyPrime's GST?
Yes, and for most practices that is the sensible arrangement. Greenote gets the books into Tally and checks them; TallyPrime's GST is where the return is prepared and filed. The two do not pass data to each other, so you carry the figures across yourself.
How much does Greenote cost compared with TallyPrime's GST?
The GST work is in the Books and GST plan, which is ₹11,999 a year for one person and includes everything in Starter. All-in-One, which is every plan together with the office around them, is ₹14,999. No GST is added on top. What TallyPrime's GST publishes, read on 11 October 2026, is set out in the table on this page. Check their current pricing before deciding, since prices change.
Can I try Greenote first?
Yes. We set up every free trial on a short call, so it is ready for your own statements. The free trial runs for 2 days or 10 statements, whichever comes first, and needs no card. If you need more statements to be sure, ask us and we will add them.
Does Greenote issue a GST invoice?
No. Greenote is not GST-registered, so no GST is added to the listed price and the amount shown is the amount charged. The trade-off is that there is no GST invoice and therefore no input tax credit for your firm. If input credit matters more to you than the headline price, a GST-registered vendor is the better commercial choice.
