Gen GST and Greenote: which does what

GST return filing software from Jaipur, sold as desktop and online editions, with e-invoice, e-way bill and data import from Tally, Busy and Excel. Its prices are published.

Gen GST is filing software with its prices on the page: an installation charge, then a yearly update, in desktop and online editions. It files the regular and annual returns and has separate editions for e-invoice and e-way bill. Greenote files nothing, so on the central question the answer is simple.

Greenote sits before it. Gen GST imports data from Tally; Greenote is how a lot of that data reaches Tally in the first place, and it checks the 2B, GSTR-1 and 3B figures against the books before you carry them into whatever you file with. The two are more often used together than swapped.

Who Gen GST suits

  • A CA or tax professional filing for many GSTINs who wants a low yearly update charge.

  • A practice that wants a desktop edition and a browser edition from one vendor.

  • An office that needs e-invoice and e-way bill work beside returns.
