ClearTax GST and Greenote: which does what

A cloud GST platform covering reconciliation, preparation and filing from GSTR-1 to GSTR-9C, pitched at CAs, SMEs and large enterprises. It does not publish a price.

ClearTax GST is one of the widest GST filing products in India: a cloud platform that reconciles, prepares and files every return from GSTR-1 to GSTR-9C. Greenote is not a rival to that. It does not file a GST return in any plan today.

The two meet at reconciliation. ClearTax matches the 2B inside its own cloud, from data you import. Greenote matches the 2B against the purchase register on your own PC, alongside the bank and bill entry that produced the register. A practice already filing through ClearTax can still use Greenote for the books; a practice looking for somewhere to file should look at ClearTax and the others in this section.

Who ClearTax GST suits

  • A CA firm or a company filing for many GSTINs, that wants filing and reconciliation in one cloud product.

  • An enterprise that needs GSTR-6, GSTR-7 or GSTR-8 as well as the usual returns.

  • A team that wants to import straight from its ERP.

What ClearTax GST (ClearGST) costs

ClearTax does not publish a price for its GST software on the page we read. It asks you to request a demo. Ask them for a written quote for your number of GSTINs. We read their pages on 11 October 2026 and will not guess a figure.

When ClearTax GST is the better choice

Greenote does not do what ClearTax GST does. These are the cases where it is the one to buy.

  • You need to file, across many GSTINs, from a browser. That is what it is built for. Greenote does not file.

  • You need the returns beyond 1, 3B and 9: their page lists GSTR-4, 6, 7, 8 and 9C.

  • You are a larger business with an ERP. Their product imports from it and reports at PAN level.

  • You want a vendor of that size, and a GST invoice for the subscription.

ClearTax GST and Greenote: common questions

Does Greenote file GST returns like ClearTax GST?
No. Greenote does not file GST returns. It prepares the workings and the checks, and you file on the GST portal or in your filing software. Greenote does not generate e-invoices or e-way bills. If you need software to file with, ClearTax GST is that kind of product and Greenote is not.
What does Greenote do for GST, then?
GSTR-2B reconciliation, GSTR-3B working, GSTR-1 check, Supplier filing check, Book a month's purchases from 2B and GSTR-9 working. All of it is in the Books and GST and All-in-One plans.
Can I use Greenote together with ClearTax GST?
Yes, and for most practices that is the sensible arrangement. Greenote gets the books into Tally and checks them; ClearTax GST is where the return is prepared and filed. The two do not pass data to each other, so you carry the figures across yourself.
How much does Greenote cost compared with ClearTax GST?
The GST work is in the Books and GST plan, which is ₹11,999 a year for one person and includes everything in Starter. All-in-One, which is every plan together with the office around them, is ₹14,999. No GST is added on top. ClearTax GST does not publish a price we could read on 11 October 2026, so ask them directly for a current figure rather than relying on any third-party page.
Can I try Greenote first?
Yes. We set up every free trial on a short call, so it is ready for your own statements. The free trial runs for 2 days or 10 statements, whichever comes first, and needs no card. If you need more statements to be sure, ask us and we will add them.
Does Greenote issue a GST invoice?
No. Greenote is not GST-registered, so no GST is added to the listed price and the amount shown is the amount charged. The trade-off is that there is no GST invoice and therefore no input tax credit for your firm. If input credit matters more to you than the headline price, a GST-registered vendor is the better commercial choice.
