Computax TDS and Greenote: which does what

CompuTDS is the TDS product in the CompuTax family: e-TDS returns uploaded to the income tax portal, TRACES requests, signed Form 16 and 16A, and import from Tally and Excel. No price is published.

CompuTDS is a full TDS return product: deductor registration at TRACES, challan import, the return prepared and uploaded, late fee worked out, and Form 16 and 16A generated signed. Greenote does none of these in any plan today.

Where Greenote helps a CompuTDS office is upstream and downstream of the return. Upstream, it finds payments in the books where TDS should have been deducted and was not. Downstream, it sets the client’s 26AS and AIS against the books. The return in the middle is CompuTDS’s job.

Who Computax TDS suits

  • A practice already on CompuTax for income tax.

  • A deductor who wants TRACES requests, challan import and late fee worked out in one place.

  • An office that keeps TDS entries in Tally and wants them imported.

What CompuTDS by CompuTax costs

CompuTax does not show a price for CompuTDS on its product page. Ask them for a written quote. We read their pages on 11 October 2026 and will not guess a figure.

When Computax TDS is the better choice

  • You need to file a TDS return. CompuTDS prepares the e-TDS return and uploads it to the income tax portal. Greenote does not.

  • You need Form 16 and 16A. It generates them digitally signed from TRACES and emails them. Greenote does not.

  • Your TDS entries are in Tally and you want them imported into the return. Their page lists import from Tally.

Computax TDS and Greenote: common questions

Does Greenote prepare TDS returns or Form 16 like Computax TDS?
No. Greenote does not prepare or file TDS returns. No plan today includes 24Q, 26Q, 27Q or 27EQ. Greenote does not prepare correction returns. Greenote does not generate Form 16 or Form 16A. If you need software to file with, Computax TDS is that kind of product and Greenote is not.
What does Greenote do for TDS, then?
Missed TDS finder and 26AS and AIS against the books. All of it is in the Tax and Audit and All-in-One plans.
Can I use Greenote together with Computax TDS?
Yes, and for most practices that is the sensible arrangement. Greenote gets the books into Tally and checks them; Computax TDS is where the return is prepared and filed. The two do not pass data to each other, so you carry the figures across yourself.
How much does Greenote cost compared with Computax TDS?
The TDS work is in the Tax and Audit plan, which is ₹11,999 a year for one person and includes everything in Starter. All-in-One, which is every plan together with the office around them, is ₹14,999. No GST is added on top. Computax TDS does not publish a price we could read on 11 October 2026, so ask them directly for a current figure rather than relying on any third-party page.
Can I try Greenote first?
Yes. We set up every free trial on a short call, so it is ready for your own statements. The free trial runs for 2 days or 10 statements, whichever comes first, and needs no card. If you need more statements to be sure, ask us and we will add them.
Does Greenote issue a GST invoice?
No. Greenote is not GST-registered, so no GST is added to the listed price and the amount shown is the amount charged. The trade-off is that there is no GST invoice and therefore no input tax credit for your firm. If input credit matters more to you than the headline price, a GST-registered vendor is the better commercial choice.
